THE MEANING OF PRIDE
Our PPV'S are occasions where teams are made and season's are broken..This May PRIDE takes centre stage and we ask what is PRIDE?

Pride (in the name of love)
I know how you all love your Poems so lets start with one.
Look at your Pride.
It has made you utterly helpless.
When you say something
Out of nowhere pride appears.
When you do something
Again out of nowhere Pride appears.
Alas, how helpless you are.
Pride has you.
Pride costs more than; hunger, starvation and war.

Pride in the Christian tradition is said to be the deadliest of the seven deadly sins.
The seven are:
Lust
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth
Wrath
Envy
Pride
An analysis of my average weekend quickly dispels any notion of my inability to be a good Christian: I am most of you will recognise this schedule from my average weekend; a bit of porn(lust) followed by some drinking (gluttony), eating (greed), a little snooze (sloth), waking feeling like crap and then wishing you had a better life (envy) and deciding to kick the cat/dog (wrath) is all in a days work.
But what about PRIDE…..
It is said that: Pride goes before a fall.
For those of you intent on being the best but who aren’t, your destiny is already written. For those of you who are the best don’t be proud, because it can easily be taken from you. The message is, enjoy the battle, enjoy the game. But don’t think you're clever.
So far I have linked pride to negative connotations.
But lets not feel too bad about it, lets feel Pride.
There is the Pride of;
Pride of the three lions
Pride of battling against the odds
Pride of winning, pride in losing, pride in saying the best team won.
Pride with anger and a feeling of entitlement will lead you to hatred and being a Knob-Head ( you know, the guys who get angry and act like babies when they get beat by a better team). It will make you think you deserve more than you get and make you think you are better than you are-ultimately, a life that is too ambitious and demands too much can lead to self-hatred and the end of a noose or the bottom of a hole.
Pride should be strong and faithful;
I can think of no better image than when an ageing Rocky walks away from his last bout after being defeated 2-1. He steps out of the ring and walks to the changing room while the announcer reads out the results--not interested in others opinions, but with an inner knowledge that he has lived with his demons all his life, only now does he understand-it was for him and him alone. All the crowd shout his name and he humble turns to acknowledge them while his young opponent still in the ring and still basking in what he thinks is victory still has some hard lessons to learn, but Rocky has given him a clue…..Pride is not winning, neither is it losing. Pride is knowing and accepting while taking part with all your pride.
Feeling good about what you achieve and still leaving room for the other man is positive Pride.
It is a Pride in the game and the contest. It is a pride in taking part and belonging. It is not pride that should worry us....it is self. Winning or losing one should do it with pride.
So lets be proud of this thing we call FOOTBALL ENTERTAINMENT and may the best team win.
