FC HEAT

St George Utd

St George Utd

FC Heat had just been crowned as Team of the Month at the previous night’s awards night but that also bought a split in the camp between keeper Luke Maslin and Manager Rich Slack, Tom G and Craig so the question was had they reconciled to put up a fight for the right to a cup final birth. St George Utd had come of two losses from the week before but despite that blip in form the George’s had been a highlight of season 06 so far and now found themselves on the verge of an un thought of Reds Cup Final place.

The start of the match was tentative with both sides testing each others waters and exchanging possession in the early going but it was St George Utd who started to get the upper hand and started to dominate offensively and their pressure broke the Heat rearguard as Carl raced through to ram home the opening goal, St George continued to cause Heat major problems with the speed of their attacks and they went close another two times before the Impressive Ash made it two nil with a fantastic free kick which left Heat keeper Luke scratching his head and St George took a 3 zip lead with another free-kick. The game was starting to look like a one sided affair until player/manager Rich Slack motored down the right to smash a low drive into the back of the St George net and now it was game on…..St George made it 4-1 (Ash) and the match was becoming frantic with action end to end like a tennis match and now sooner had St George made it 4-1 that Heat went and made it 4-3 thanks to 2 quick fire goals from Jason Wigmore, St George roared back with defiance with Ash making it 5-3, another Heat goal kept them in the tie as both defences and goal keepers were overloaded by attacking prowess by both teams and it wasn’t long before Heat equalised with another two Jason Wigmore strikes and as all watching this marvellous spectacle took a breath the half time whistle blew.

Ding, Ding round two and the sides came out as they left.. attacking with power and pace and St George extended Luke early but the FC Heat keeper was equal to the barrage and made a couple of exquisite saves but true to form the two teams exchanged goals to take it to 6-6. FC Heat were starting to struggle under the constant pace and found themselves with backs to the wall as key defender Steve Bolas had to dig into his ‘captain marvel’ bag and pull out the necessary tools to prevent Heat falling behind their rampant opposition but in contrast to the running of the game big Craig was released by Jason and he slotted home to give advantage point to FC Heat. The game swung in Heat’s favour and they became the more confident team as St George started to force their attacks and opportunities and no one more than Paul who was finding himself thrashing at chances and blazing over on many occasions , Heat then took a 8-6 lead as Wigmore hit another. St George were not going to lay down and take defeat and hit back with a free kick as time started to run out for St George but in true Bulldog spirit they found the deserved equaliser as the Paul hit a long ranger which nestled into the back of night much to the glee of his players and him… This bought the full time whistle and the daunting realisation of Penalties.

Penalties are an exciting yet hard way to decide a fixture let alone a semi-final. Both teams slotted home their first two penalties and man of the match Jason Wigmore made it 2-1.  It then the unlucky man who stepped up and this man was St George player/manager Paul who watched in anguish as his nicely struck penalty was pushed away by the  Maverick who had guessed right and dived to his left and pushed the spot kit away !! It was left to FC Heat’s Craig to ram home the winner and a spot in the Reds Cup Final.
