What was expected to be an all out battle turned out to be just that. Excelsior looking to dismiss rumours they wouldn’t be strong enough without Curtis took control early on with some excellent fast paced football, putting the early pressure on Dave Jones and co, unfortunately they found Jones in top form as he seemed to thwart every attack Excelsior threw at him. There was nothing he could do for the opening goal though as Andy gave away a free kick close to the area, Lil Ash McBride stepped up and curled a fantastic free kick into the far corner. Only two minutes later and Excelsior were cheering again as Lil Dan found some space down the left and blasted a fierce low drive into the far corner. S.Else began to realise they needed to up there game and after Steve Reece was felled just inside the Excelsior half he stepped up himself and found the bottom right corner with a long range effort. The game was now being played at such a fast pace and it was Excelsior that had the most possession but still they were finding Dave Jones a rock at the back winning everything he threw himself at everything. The more Excelsior pressed though the more gaps they left at the back but every time S.Else found there way through Ian 'Iceman' Clelland was there to stop them, pulling off two fantastic saves from Thommo and Steve Reece just before the break. For all the possession Excelsior had they rarely troubled the goal but when Matty G was eventually called upon he somehow got down to a low drive from Danny bell and tipped his shot wide.

Iceman had a point to prove for his surprise omission from the recent international squads and was doing just that as he pulled off another two excellent saves, Something Else found themselves shooting from long range as they struggled to break down Gavin and James Brown who were both excellent. As the game unfolded the usual tough tackles started to fly about, in particular Danny bell with 2 crunching challenges on Thommo and Reece before Reece was guilty of missing an open goal after some good work from Thommo on the left. Ian again was called into action and pulled off another fine stop from Dave Jones as Andy missed the rebound. It was becoming end to end stuff and it wasn’t long until the duck was finally broken, Thommo picked up a loose pass from James B and blasted in his shot under the diving Ice. And within minutes of equalising thommo beat James and Gav and laid the ball across for Andy to hit into the open net to give them a 3-2 lead.
Excelsior were finding themselves on the back foot for the first time in the game but continued to press for the equaliser, It was Steve Reece though that ended the game on a high for Something Else, with only a couple of minutes left broke free and finished off coolly to give Something Else a 4-2 win and keep them unbeaten in the league.
