It was the game the viewing public had been waiting for and when both teams entered the ‘rectangle’ the anticipation and expression of war was etched on the gladiators involved.
The game started at the expected fast pace as the Playerz tried to stamp their footballing authority on the game and passed the ball well with Muzo the main target at the attacking end and their persistents paid off as they were awarded a Penalty after Rejects keeper Sam handled outside the area. The ‘BIG’ man Muzo placed the ball on the spot and smashed the ball high into the corner and with it a one nil lead. Rejects were visually stunned and looked a little unsure about the task in hand especially after Muzo hit a stunning second, hitting the perfect strike which left the keeper helpless, two- nil Playerz. Then something happened City Rejects switched, changed and at that instant the game changed as the trio of Macca, Rob and Moggy started to dominate in the trenches while defender Danny Elkin started to get to grips with Muzo and the tide of the game started to change and it was Macca who revived the tie with two goals to equal the game. Both teams fought for supremacy of the ball as Rejects piled the pressure on the Playerz when they were in possession and slowly the tactic started to frustrate and drain the usually composed African Lions. The lead was taken when Macca played a nice one two with Rob and he laid in Moggy who dispatched the ball home with ease and this is the word that started to describe Rejects dominance ‘ease’ and the only other major attacking play Playerz managed in the 1st half was Muzo rattling the crossbar but amongst Rejects Rob doing likewise Rejects hit another 3 goals to go into half time 6-2 to the good.
The Playerz only real attacking threat Muzo hit his hat-trick early doors second half and it looked that after a heated exchange between themselves, the Playerz had come out ready to restore their wounded pride but Rejects had other ideas and they just switched up the intensity button that made them too hot to handle and they started to rampage all over the Playerz.
The Wizard Rob M was starting to dazzle as hit white ‘pixy’ shoes become blurs in the eyes of the Playerz rearguard and the magic man made it 7-3 after a sloppy throw out by keeper Jecko allowed Rob to slip the ball home. Playerz where given a moments solace from the barrage after Hall of Famer Gavin Lee saw his shot blocked by the rushing in Moggy who proceeded to dive an roll his way into his own area but the night for the Playerz was summed up as Muzo saw his second penalty of the game saved by the impressive Sam. Rejects then went on to hit another two to take the tally to 9-3 and the final whistle.
A much unexpected result by most but to City Rejects they believed they could do what they did and kudos to them. Playerz will reflect on what happened at BAD INTENTIONS and rest assured this title race is far from over.
