Millers Appeal’s Mark Quinn was the centre of attention in tonight’s big fixture, being a former Excelsior player and leaving under a dark cloud, he felt more than anyone he had a point to prove.
It was Millers who set the standards in the opening 5 minutes as they looked to stifle out Excelsior’s attacking threat with Aggy in particular doing a fantastic Job on the ever impressive Curtis Liburd as he hustled away keeping the threat to long shots on his weaker right foot.
Millers’ Counter attacking style seemed to suit the pint sized striker as he threatened the Excelsior goal twice before finally finding the back of the net with a neat finish under the iceman. The lead lasted only seconds though as lil Dan levelled the game with a ferocious strike from distance into the far corner. Excelsior dominated possession there on but, Aggy in particular was immense at the back with help from Ian Davies and Amraj. It was Amraj that set up Mr Quinn for his second of the night winning the challenge in his own half and releasing Quinny for his trademark slide pass goal and it wasn’t long until he was on the score sheet himself as he found himself in acres of space down the left before hitting a low shot beyond the Keeper.
Lil Dan stepped up to the mark with Curtis finding it more difficult to get into the game as he bagged his second goal of the night to keep the pressure on the Millers but just before the break it was Aggy that capped off his night with a goal he’d be proud of.
The second half was almost identical with Excelsior putting on the pressure but finding no way past the Millers defence. Arfan playing his part with some excellent saves from both Danny Bell and lil Dan, but there was nothing he could do about Lil Dans hat trick goal as it was placed in the far right hand corner.
Excelsior continued pressing forward and left a big gaping hole at the back which Amraj duly noticed and once again sent Quinny on his way as he rounded off a superb display with his own hat trick to give them a 5-3 lead with not long left. Excelsior had one final push for the win as Curtis finally got on the score sheet with a typical left foot drive that Arfan could only watch fly by but it was Amraj that sealed the final nail with an easy finish after good work from Ian giving them a 6-4 lead with under a minute left. Excelsior did find the net one last time but it was too late for an equaliser as Millers would have felt hard done by.
A well fought win for the Millers as they battled until the end. Aggy putting in a man of the match performance.
