What the Manager said:
Team Friday Manager Mark says:
"I’m thoroughly proud of this performance especially going into the game with only 6 players after my defensive cover pulled out at the last minute. Gavin and Dave having to play virtually the whole game were amazing at the back especially in the 2nd half when the Sunday team were putting so much pressure on us. Everyone played there part and kept the ball when they needed to taking off the pressure from the back 2, with 2 fantastically taken goals from lil Dan on the counter My only disappointment was some of the refereeing decisions, both there goals were scored from resulting free kicks that were blatantly not free kicks and the second goal was scored 3 minutes into a 30 second time-added on period, but the penalty shoot out win keeps the Friday leagues unbeaten.."

Assistant Paul Price, Curtis L, Jecko, Liam (C), Muzo, Moggy, Danny T, James B
Matty G
Justified his call up with a string of fine saves to keep his team in it in the first half, was unlucky for the Sunday teams 2nd goal as it rebounded back off the post. Saved a penalty from Curtis in the shootout.
Rating 8
Gavin Lee (cap)
Captain marvel once again, solid in everything he did and kept the threat of Curtis at bay, had to play virtually the whole game due to lack of defensive cover but led by example throughout.
Rating 8
Dave Jones
Arguably the best player in the Friday league and on this performance few could argue. Was immense at the back and went forward at every opportunity but never neglected his defensive duties. Was put under pressure for most of the 2nd half as the Sunday team looked for the equalizer but Dave never gave an inch, scored his penalty with conviction too after having to retake it. Superb
Rating 9*
Danny Doherty
Scored both the goals in the 1st half with probably the only two shots he had and he took them both fantastically. Worked hard for the team getting back when he needed, but found it difficult with all the pressure the Sunday team were forcing. Did himself proud with a slight injury almost forcing him out of the game, and scoring in the shootout too.
Rating 7
Will
Held the ball up well and was unlucky not to score hitting the post and forcing Jecko into 2 fantastic saves in either half, caused problems with his strength and size but never really stamped his authority as he did in the first international, was targeted by some poor refereeing decisions too just as fellow big lad Peter Crouch often does. Finished his penalty off in the shootout with confidence.
Rating 7
Nick Janda
Had a quiet game in retrospect but wasn’t given as much opportunities to shine as perhaps would’ve liked having to make way for substitutes due to lack of defensive cover, did his job when he came on but failed to pick up on his defensive duties at times.
Rating 6
Jecko
It was an excellent debut from the Playerz shot stopper. He dealt with everything he could and his distribution was first class.
Rating 8*
Liam (cap)
Was again instrumental throughout ,did get pulled out of position at times but the ‘silent’ captain led from the back.
Rating 7
James Brown
Was not really his type of game due to Team Sunday hunting goals but when he played he never let the team down.
Rating 7
Muzo
A player of undoubted pedigree and ability but couldn’t stamp his authority on this game.
Rating 7
Curtis Liburd
A big stage on which the Old Boys striker was desperate to shine on, the hitman had a tough evening coming up against a formidable Friday defensive pairing. Held his own and scored on his debut despite spurning numerous chances.
Rating 7
Danny T
Similar to Curtis the talented left footer scored but also had a tough evening and was wayward with his shooting.
Rating 7
Moggy
Never got the chance to showcase his talents as the game was played at a furious pace and Moggy is like an artist and needs to feel , caress and be creative with the ball at his pace
Rating 6
Team Sunday Manager and 5Star supremo The President says:
“The determination of my squad could not be faltered and they gave it 100% we dictated the pace and 80% of the game but what can you do when the Friday team turn up and park the bus and the trailer in front of their goal, I think if they could of built a real wall in front of their goal they would have. Now I am not taking anything away from Gavin Lee and Dave Jones because they were excellent but I can scorn the tactics deployed by them.... counter attack my ar*se more like cling on to the hairs on their a*se cracks. I take a feeling of victory from this encounter it may have been a draw and they won via (friendly) penalty shootout but we dominated and deserved so much more than the score line suggests”
