IT WAS Ian Davies and his Millers Appeal that were looking most forward to this game, a chance to finally prove Cov Rangers weren’t going to run away with the league, a chance to show 5star promotions they were wrong to doubt them and to silence all their critics in pre-season.
Going on previous performances and results this was going to be a very close game, on paper Millers Appeal may just have had the edge, but it all come down to who wanted it most.
Cov Rangers got off to the perfect start with Mark Quinn and Kieran Edwards firing them into a 2-0 lead and totally dominating the game, they went 3-0 up through Kieran’s second before Millers had even had a shot on goal, although they had plenty of chances to shoot, but the guilty pair of Scott and Amraj failing to let fly when they had the chance instead dordling on the ball and losing possession.
It was Mark Williams (Cov Rangers) who was causing the problems with his pace and strength and it finally told when he made the score 4-0 inside the first 5 minutes. Millers finally found some space when the ball fell nicely to Scott who burst through and found himself one on one with Carl Pickup and it was Carl that came out on top with a fantastic save.
The goal of the game came just before half time when a deflected shot came back to Chris Duckett just inside his own half as he let fly with an unstoppable shot into the top left hand corner of the net, giving Cov Rangers a half time lead of 5-0.
The second half was only minutes old when Mark Quinn and Mark Williams combined superbly with some neat one twos only for Mark Williams to score a dubious looking 6th goal, He appeared to shoot from inside the box but to the dismay of the Millers Appeal the goal was given.
Millers Appeal were finding it impossible to stamp any kind of authority on the game as the Rangers were just to quick to everything, and again another excellent break saw Kieran shot whistle wide and bounce back out to Mark Williams who slotted in the rebound away with ease.
Millers Nightmare continued with one of the misses of the season, Scott found himself in acres of space out wide and produced another excellent save from C.Pickup who only managed to palm his save to Ian Davies, Davies was completely unmarked and found an empty net in front of him but from 6 yards out blazed his shot over the bar.
A couple of minutes later and Scott did finally manage to hit the back of the net after Keith picked him out nicely.
The joy didn’t last long however, with Kieran scoring a superbly taken half volley to make it 8-1.
2 goals in quick succession followed one from Quinny and another from Kieran almost identical coming from some neat passing from the two before simple tap in’s 10-1.
It was Scott once more for Millers who gave them something to cheer about even if it was only for a short while scoring from the edge of the box.
Mark Quinn was guilty of some shocking finishing, especially from someone of his calibre but it wasn’t long before they got the 11th with Mark Williams sprinting through to finish with ease his one on one with the keeper. Perhaps feeling a little jaded now as they’d kept up such a pace throughout it was Millers who had the final goal with Scott claiming his hat trick but it was nowhere near enough to disrupt Cov Rangers dominance so far, perhaps now Millers will be concentrating on keeping the second automatic promotion spot there own.
Cov Rangers Manager said: " Mark Quinn was delighted with the win saying, “If these are our closest rivals then the league is ours”
Millers A Manager Ian Davies said: “It was our lack of shooting which we are normally so good at that cost us dearly”
5star Promotions say: “ A major descion in choice of their starting 5 really cost the Millers on this occasion and we cant see anyone dislodging Cov Rangers from the top but it’s very possible we will see both these teams in the CLUB HEAT premier Division next season!”
