Excelsior
Good turn out new signing goalkeeper Colin included in the match day squad.
As season 4 enters the final stages we start to find out who will be challenging for silverware, and as predicted Something Else found themselves just one game away from there first final this year just as they have done in the last 2 seasons.
Looking at the two teams on paper they seemed very evenly matched with Excelsior looking in good condition with key players Danny Bell, Gavin and Curtis all available and with a new keeper at the helm things were looking good for them.
Something Else had stand in keeper “taf” deputising for this crucial cup game and what a decision it seemed to be as within minutes of the kick off he produced an unbelievable save from Danny Bell who looked odds on to score from close range, it began as a battle of the keepers as at the other end the new man was also showing he seems to be a good signing getting down to save from a Danny Thompson long ranger. Excelsior began to show a bit of dominance as they continually found gaps in the S.Else defence unfortunately they couldn’t find the gap that mattered most as “taf” was inspirational in goal. The failure to score proved costly as Something Else made there way up-court and found the net through Dave Jones, Jones has been inconsistent in recent weeks but this effort gave him the boost he was looking for as he began to take control in the middle, it was his pass that picked out D,Thompson for the second. Taf continued his impressive first half with stops from Danny Bell, Curtis and Dan G before giving away a penalty for handling out the box, Danny Bell stepped up to score only for it to be retaken for failing to wait for the whistle, his second attempt was blasted over to keep S.Else on top and Steve Reece made sure they would be going in at half time in the lead scoring 2 in quick succession just before the break. 4-0
The second half saw Curtis start on the bench in what could only be down to an injury as he looked lively with some good tussles between himself and Danny Thomson, If it was a tactical decision by Gavin it could’ve been a wise one within minutes Excelsior scored there first through Danny Bell as they caught S.Else asleep and through sheer power he forced the ball in at the near post, Something Else woke themselves up and Danny Thomson in particular began to run at players with Curtis missing he seemed to have a free run on the left as he fired in his second before supplying Steve Reece for his hat trick (5-1).
Andy found himself in on the act too as he scored his teams 6th goal of the game to firmly put one foot into the Final, with Excelsior looking increasingly frustrated at being unable to find a way past man of the match “Taf” they succumbed to defeat when Dave Jones completed the rout scoring his 2nd and Something Else’s 7th to book a place in the League Cup final against either ECCC or Ziggy Tooters.
5starpromotions say: Something Else were favourites at the beginning of the season to win some silverware, the cup is there most likely chance to achieve it.
Excelsior Manager Gavin said: There Keeper was outstanding and kept them in it, if we’d have scored before half time we’d have been right in it.
Andy from Something Else said: We deserved to win and glad we picked ‘Taf’ to go in goal, I think we’d have won either way though.
