ECCC were looking to continue their remarkable season in the Inter League cup against an in form City Rejects from the supposedly higher standard CLUB HEAT Sunday Premier League.
The game got off to the expected frantic pace and within a couple of minutes ECCC’s Scott had put them ahead with a nicely placed effort. It wasn’t long until Scott scored ECCC’s and his second of the game finishing a great move involving TC and Steve S. With City Rejects seemingly reluctant to defend it seemed as though ECCC were going to win by a canter, looking strong in every attack it was a surprise to see City Rejects score the next goal, somewhat fortuitous but never the less a goal, some scrappy play in the middle allowed the ball to fall to Guest player Danny T to fire the ball past Rich in the ECCC goal. The goal sprung City Rejects into life as they looked to bring the game level, unfortunately with only one player defending it was ECCC that took there opportunity better and with a quick attack down the right the ball was dispatched into the net with ease to give ECCC a 3-1 advantage.
Rejects’ Terry used his experience to lift his team as they looked to close the gap before half time and it paid off with Moggy looking lively to set up Mark Quinn for the 2nd…and within minutes it was 3-3 with Moggy scoring.
The game started to open up a little more and there was still time for another goal apiece to make it 4-4 at half time.
ECCC started the second half in the same way as the first scoring 2 goals in quick succession, first from a mistake by the City Rejects keeper Carl as his poor throw out found an ECCC player who dually obliged by slotting it straight back in the back of the net making it 6-4, Moggy then used his pace to set up Terry for a trademark long range shot that beat the Rich Swaff to narrow the gap, but again the ECCC attack was just too strong when they went forward, with City Rejects defence yet again nowhere to be seen it was ECCC that scored again, Scott bagging his hat trick 7-5 to ECCC, with not long left City Rejects threw everything into attack and left a gaping hole at the back and with the pace of ECCC going forward they paid the price conceding there 8th goal, Rejects did manage a consolation goal in the dying minutes but it wasn’t enough to stop them going out of yet another cup.
5star promotions says “ We were expecting a fast paced game but the missing City Rejects players didn’t do them any favours and was probably the cause of their downfall. All credit to the impressive ECCC who will be looking to keep the Friday league flag flying in this dual league cup!”
